As director of news and information at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, I seek quick, effective, and reasonably priced ways to disseminate our news. Most services charge thousands of dollars a year. In May, only two months after subscribing to your service, we pitched a story about a new drug for alcoholism. We posted the story, which was embargoed by a major journal, on Newswise. A writer for the Associated Press saw the posting and contacted us well before the embargo date, ensuring coverage nationwide when the embargo lifted. The initial membership fee was richly repaid. I am able to justify the expense for Newswise thanks to the knowledge that Newswise reaches journalists at all the major newspapers and broadcast media and more than 1,000 freelancers. I look forward to posting more stories on Newswise and gaining national coverage for literally pennies per unit of publicity value.
